1/6/2024 0 Comments Boy scouts safety afloatTrek Safely is the BSA’s recommended procedure for organizing and carrying out outdoor treks that involve Boy Scout, Varsity Scouts, and Venturers. It expands the awareness instruction provided by Safe Swim Defense training. Swimming and Water Rescue provides BSA leaders with information and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to swimming emergencies during unit swimming activities. Paddle Craft Safety BSA Paddle Craft Safety expands Safety Afloat training to include the skills and knowledge needed for a unit leader to confidently supervise canoeing or kayaking excursions on flat water. Before a BSA group may engage in an excursion, expedition, or trip on the water (canoe, raft, sailboat, motorboat, rowboat, tube or other craft), adult leaders for such activity must complete Safety Afloat training, have a commitment card with them, and be dedicated to full compliance with all nine points of Safety Afloat. Safety Afloat has been developed to promote boating safety and to set standards for safe unit activity afloat. Safe Swim Defense Before a BSA group may engage in swimming activities of any kind, a minimum of one adult leader must complete Safe Swim Defense training, have a commitment card with them, and agree to use the eight defenses of this plan. (This orientation does not constitute training on how to climb or rappel.) It offers guidance for climbing and rappelling at national sites and at specifically designed facilities, including climbing towers and fixed and portable walls. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops in order to be considered “trained”.Ĭlimb on Safely designed for unit climbing/rappelling, is the BSA’s recommended procedure for organizing and managing climbing and rappelling activities at all levels of the Scouting program. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors.
